Tips and Tools to lower your water usage!

A leaky toilet is a big part of wasted money towards your water bill.Did you know that you may not even be aware that your toilet is leaking. Here is a test that you can do yourself to help prevent having an outrageous water bill.
1. Shut off all Faucets in your house.
2. Locate your meter in your house, it's probably in the basement.(look at Figure A)
3. Look for the small red triangle were the arrow in Figure A points to.

Figure A

If that red triangle is spinning and all of the faucets and washing machines are shut off in your house then you may have a leak. If it is spinning very fast then you have a big leak and should call a plumber. If it is slowly moving around then go to all of your toilets and listen to them very closely. If there are any noises coming from your in house water lines then you need to contact a plumber.

Another way to save money on your water bill is to not allow the water to run when you are brushing your teeth. Instead wet your toothbrush, brush your teeth and then turn the water on again to rinse.

If you have a fish tank there is another way to save a good amount of money on your bill. It's a two for one deal, when you clean your fish tank use the dirty water that you take out of your tank to water your plants. The tank water is rich in nitrogen and phosphorous which makes it a good fertilizer for your plants.

Don't water your lawn when it's windy! Your water will go everywhere but on your lawn. If you have a sprinkler make sure that is aimed at your lawn and not the street or sidewalk, they don't need to grow!

Food for thought every glass of water brought to your table in a restaurant requires another two  glasses of water to wash and rinse the glass. Since nearly 70 million     meals are served each day in US resturants, we'd save more than 26 million gallons of water if only one person in four declined the complimentary glassful.
